What is Trigger Point Release Therapy?
Trigger point release therapy is an effective way of treating pain caused by injury, arthritis, sciatica, back and neck problems, and carpal tunnel syndrome. TPR therapy can also improve conditions such as insomnia, PMS, chronic headaches and poor circulation in just a few sessions.
Myofascial trigger points, or tight, contracted tender spots within the muscles of the musculoskeletal system, can often cause pain and dysfunction. Trigger points can also refer pain, tingling, or numbness to other parts of the body. To be free from pain, these trigger points need to be located
and eliminated and circulation must be brought back to the dysfunctional trigger point areas.
The treatment begins with a hot, herbal compress applied to the body to detoxify muscles and allow the therapist to go deeper into the fascia. Then trigger points are identified and eliminated by applying deep pressure to the spot for five to twenty seconds. The pressure is applied with hands or elbows, or when necessary, with a technique called cupping, an ancient method of using glass cups to create localized pressure by a vacuum. The vacuum inside the cups causes the blood to form in the area for improved circulation and healing in that area. Cupping also opens meridians to allow the internal energy to flow through the whole body while allowing the body to release harmful toxins. Essential oils are used throughout the treatment and tailored to the needs of the client.
Although relief is often felt in just one treatment, several treatments may be recommended for complete relief of pain.
